MBA
ALL STAR TEAMS
| Each
year MBA forms teams to participate in tournaments outside
of our normal league games. There has occasionally been
confusion and concern regarding the basis for the selection
of these teams, their goals in tournament play, and the
expected commitment of both players and parents. The Board
has developed guidelines in the hope that the purposes of
these teams and the expectations of those who participate
on them will be clear. |
Teams
are formed at the Mustang, Bronco and Pony levels. These
post-season teams are considered All-Star teams, and the
player selection is made with the goal of fielding the most
competitive teams possible. The number of teams created
will be determined by the Board each year; depending on
available players, and with the recommendation of the managers
at each level. Players are selected based on their hitting,
fielding, speed, pitching ability, attitude, and general
level of play.
These teams participate on sanctioned PONY tournaments and/or
tournaments that are selected for their appropriate level
of competition. Players asked to participate on these teams,
as well as their parents, need to be aware that the goal
of the post-season tournament play is to win games. The
playing time of individual members of the team may be limited
to that end. |
 |
 |
Players selected for the teams are expected to attend
every practice, practice game and tournament game. Families
are asked to postpone vacations until after the end of the
All-Star season, which can start as early as Memorial Day
and can run through early August. If a player has an unavoidable
conflict during the All-Star season, he or she can still
be considered for the team in question at the discretion
of its manager.
The selection process for players and managers can differ
by age group. Regrettably, not every interested player/family
is asked to participate. Careful consideration is given
by those involved to create teams with the best chance for
success. MBA puts forth tremendous effort to ensure that
this selection process is fair and unbiased. |
Mustang
All-Stars
At minimum, a Mustang All-Star team is selected to participate
in sanctioned PONY tournaments. Mustang managers select the
team immediately after regular season play concludes. The voting
is administered by the VP of Pinto/Mustang. All players selected
to this team will play a minimum of two defensive innings per
game.
The All-Star Manager will be selected by the Board of Directors.
West Diablo Valley Bronco All-Stars
Each year some MBA Bronco players are selected to participate
on an All-Star team comprised of the best players from the entire
West Diablo Valley Bronco League. The process of selecting this
team is under the control of the WDVBL. WDV managers select
the players. The purpose of this team is to advance as far as
possible in sanctioned PONY tournaments.
Bronco All-Stars
At minimum, MBA fields a Bronco All-Star team made up of the
best MBA players not playing on the WDV team. The goal is to
afford the opportunity for more Bronco players to get post-season
experience. The number of players selected will be not less
than twelve, nor more than thirteen. The MBA Bronco managers
select the team immediately after regular season play concludes.
The voting is administered by the VP of Bronco/Pony. All players
selected to this team will play a minimum of two defensive innings
per game.
The All-Star Manager will be selected by the Board of Directors.
Pony All-Stars
Each year some MBA players are selected for Pony All-Star teams.
There are typically two teams - a fourteen-year old team and
a thirteen-year old team. The teams are comprised of players
from Moraga, Orinda, Piedmont, Walnut Creek and Lafayette Diablo
Valley Pony League teams. Diablo Valley Pony League managers
select the teams. Once again, the purpose of these teams is
to advance as far as possible in sanctioned PONY tournaments.
